Growing Conditions
Morisoli Vineyard consists of 53 contiguous acres on the famed Rutherford Bench in the Napa Valley. Gary Morisoli is the fourth generation of his family to grow grapes on this historic property, which has been family-farmed for over 100 years. Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit from this vineyard is some of the most sought after in the Napa Valley. Surrounded by Staglin Family Vineyard, Scarecrow, Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Inglenook, Morisoli Vineyard fruit exhibits classic “Rutherford Dust” qualities and rich Cabernet Sauvignon character.
2014 was an excellent vintage for Napa winemaking, the third consecutive such vintage, following the stunning successes of both 2012 and 2013. Despite a regional drought, significant rains in February and March gave the vineyards a healthy soaking, and set up the vines for early budbreak. A mild spring and “perfect” summer temperatures brought grapes to optimum ripeness before an early harvest. The resulting wines show intense aromatics and complex fruit character.
Winemaking
With its deeply stained purple color, this elegant powerhouse of a wine showcases intense aromas of black raspberry, currant, and fresh damson plum supported by complex notes of mocha and baking spice. It is broad-shouldered and muscular on the palate, but with lively fruit and complex spice to complement the silky tannins and dusty texture on its long, seamless finish.
Aging
