Nose
The nose shows aromas of cherry and blueberry, with a hint of briar and toasted oak.
Palate
The palate shows lively blackberry, cherry and cranberry flavors, with floral undertones and a hint of nutmeg. A streak of acidity carries through as the finish leaves an impression of supple tannin and sweet Bing cherry. Elegant and balanced, this wine is perfect for near term drinking with a range of food pairings, and should cellar well for 3-5 years.
Growing Conditions
The 2010 vintage in Oregon really could not have been any different from the previous vintage. Where 2009 was characterized by multiple days above 100 degrees and a long autumn without any fear of rain, 2010 was a more typical cool Oregon vintage, with the threat of rain looming in October. The resulting wine certainly reflects this season, with elegance being the key word.
Harvest
In 2010 the fruit for our Ophelia blend came exclusively from Shea Vineyard, with this blend being selected for a more approachable, earlier drinking style of wine.
Aging
Aged for 16 months in French barrels, with 30% new oak.
