Nose

The nose shows classic Sonoma chardonnay aromas of apple, lime, melon and lemon.

Palate

The palate is exotic and fresh, with echoes of the lime and apple from the nose joined by flavors of kiwi and apricot, along with toasty, spicy undertones. This is a lively, vibrant expression of chardonnay that marries the hallmarks of Auteur Chardonnay—good acid, lively flavors, plenty of minerality—with a more approachable style that can be consumed early without needing the extended bottle age typically required.

Growing Conditions

Sourced from Hanzell Vineyard, one of the oldest and most respected vineyards in Sonoma County. Old Wente Clone Chardonnay is planted high above the town of Sonoma, with an average vine age of over 20 years, resulting in concentrated, mineral driven flavors.

Winemaking

The wine was fermented in French oak (25% new), with occasional battonage to round out the palate.
