Growing Conditions

The red volcanic soil and pleasantly warm climate of this hillside location combine to produce rich, full‐bodied wines. Located on Sonoma Mountain with a southeastern exposure, the vineyard is above the fog level and receives early morning sun, followed by late afternoon breezes which temper the day's most extreme heat. The result of this exceptional terroir is grapes of great distinction that make wines with superb flavor and deep, rich color. The vintage of 2012 started with a dry and mild spring which gave way to a summer with nearly perfect growing conditions

Bottling

Bottled May 2013.

Winemaking

The fruit was harvested over the course of several weeks in late September/early October as each vineyard block attained its maximum flavor and ripeness. After fermentation, the young wine was pressed and settled before being placed in barrels for aging. After 19 months in the barrels the blend was assembled and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon was added to give additional complexity and balance.

Aging

19 months in French and American oak barrels.
