Nose
The 2011 Small Lot Napa Valley Syrah opens with alluring
aromas of black cherry, plum, and blueberry with subtle hints
of lavender and cassis.
Palate
A luscious palate showcases flavors of
raspberry and blackberry, finishing with notes of freshly
cracked pepper and cedar. The velvety mouthfeel, balanced
acidity, and round tannins lead to a long and full finish.
Growing Conditions
2011 was as challenging as it was educational. What began
with a wet winter and spring continued with rainfall into
mid-June. The precipitation totals for the season found the
region more than a third above normal in rainfall, and while
this was good news for water resources, the cloud cover and
cool temperatures delayed vine development by several weeks
at the onset of the growing season. Despite this, we found
that the flavors from this vintage developed at lower brix,
giving us the opportunity to make truly elegant wine.
Our Small Lot Collection Syrah grapes come from
prestigious cool-climate Jameson Canyon vineyards.
Winemaking
This
Syrah is blended with a small amount of Petite Sirah and
Cabernet Sauvignon to provide added richness and backbone
resulting in perfectly structure wine. The grapes were placed
under a 4-day cold soak with a total of 38 days on the skins.
Aging
This Syrah is 100% barrel-aged for 18 months in Demptos
and Nadalie French oak barrels.
