A brief history
Zenaida is a family operated winery located in the Templeton Gap region on the west side of the Paso Robles AVA. Our ownership team: Peter Twiss, Robert Lotierzo and Anthony Versochi! They are determined to help us continue the winery’s tradition of excellent winemaking and have a deep respect for the land. Anthony and Bob have many years of winemaking experience here in Paso and have both created their own premium wine brands. Bob spent the last ten years making wine under his label Lotierzo Family Vineyards which is a small boutique operation with numerous wines scoring in the 90’s. Anthony has focused on Cabernet Sauvignon under his brand Pius Wines, releasing fabulous vintages that repeatedly score in the mid 90’s. We are confident you’ll find the coming wines of truly exceptional quality.
Our 30 acre home vineyard is located in the Templeton Gap area, west of Paso Robles, at the base of the Santa Lucia Coastal Range. Our vines grow in a lean soil layered with calcareous shale, limestone, clay and sand. The varied soils are key to complexity in the wine. Low impact and sustainable agricultural practices entail cover-cropping with perennial grasses, recycling grape pomace into mulch and grey water reclamation. This high quality mulch allows for organisms to proliferate in the soil, which turn helps the plants to uptake nutrients, discounting the needs for harsh chemical fertilizers. Wine quality is driven by soils, climate, and location; we are growing in this area because we believe it to be one of the more superior wine growing areas.
The new management has remarkable plans in store for the winery. Major enhancements of the property and the tasting room will be underway in 2023 and the intention is to create an even more beautiful setting and unique experience. The vineyard will be replanted in 2023 prioritizing Bordeaux varietals along with a few Rhone's, and even a few white varietals.
