Growing Conditions
The 2016 Amici Cellars Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a fresh, elegant expression of its famous appellation. The Spring Mountain Vineyard sits on the eastern side of the Mayacamas at 1500 feet in elevation. The combination of morning sun and cool evenings allows the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This produces an elegant, balanced wine with Spring Mountain’s signature dark red fruit and graceful tannins.
2016 was another in a string of excellent vintages for Napa winemaking. Generous winter rains brought much-needed rainfall to saturate the root zones and replenish reservoirs. Moderate temperatures and bright sunshine enabled the vines to thrive throughout the spring and summer, creating a balanced, optimal growing pace. Warm days and cool nights during harvest season allowed ripening to progress at an even pace, resulting in wines that display complex fruit flavors and balanced acidity.
Winemaking
A classic representation of Spring Mountain, with crushed rock, licorice whip, perfumed violets and fresh tobacco on the nose. The enticing aromatics draw you in, and the intense, lush, rich palate incorporate blackberry, licorice and anise flavors underlain with spearmint and loam. Strong, chalky mountain tannins that are already beginning to soften show the age-ability of this wine, though today it is already inviting and delicious.
