Vidiano is a varietal indigenous to the island of Crete, Greece. Rediscovered in the 1980’s, it is now revealing its true capability after years of oblivion.

ANGIRA, the Greek word for anchor was the symbol of the great diplomat, statesman and ethnarch — Eleftherios Venizelos. He was a leader in Crete’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. Our grandfather served as his bodyguard and hence witnessed Venizelos’ greatness firsthand becoming a loyal supporter to the point that he would campaign on his behalf yelling through the streets and at public gatherings ANGIRA! ANGIRA! Soon our family’s nickname became ANGIRA.
