Growing Conditions

The “OG” red field blend from our lineup is back again. From a small plot planted as a co-fermentation experiment by our mentor in viticulture, Jeff Koligian (ironically, I think he coined the “Expensive Landscape” term). The west side Paso Robles property is a full bowl, just like a football stadium. We selected the varieties based on the sun exposure to create a true field blend with 4 different varieties.

The 2017 season gave us a heat spike in early September that ripened the grapes earlier than expected. Bigger and brighter fruit highlights this vintage. The most intense flavor profile we’ve ever seen from the property. Farmed on biodynamic principles, Jeff tends all of the vines by hand with his wife Sharon throughout the year. Every now and then his cousin Keith comes in for reinforcements (another one of the best guys ever!). Truly a family farming operation.

Winemaking

Jeff and I agree on a harvest date together and co-ferment everything in one tank at the winery. The percentages on the label depend all on Jeff’s best estimates of what’s in the bins and their weights, since we don’t actually know the gallons produced by variety.

Food Pairing

End cut prime rib, roasted tomato salad, garlic bread and a cherry cheesecake for dessert
