Palate
This old-vine Zinfandel provides alluring aromas and flavors of ripe black cherries, blackberry and spice highlight this old vine, single vineyard Zin. Jolene’s texture is rich and mouth filling with ripe blueberry and tobacco characteristics, supple tannins and a creamy and elegant finish.
Growing Conditions
Jolene’s Vineyard takes its name from a merging of the first names of the owners of Maffei Vineyards (Joanne and Arlene). This old vine vineyard joined the Hartford Zinfandel portfolio beginning in 2004, as a single vineyard offering and as an important component of our Russian River Valley Zinfandel blend. It is rare for such an old, Russian River Valley Zinfandel vineyard to be planted almost exclusively Zinfandel selections. Some blocks within this vineyard are over 105 years old. Most old–vine Zin vineyards in the area are ‘field’ or ‘spice’ blends that include mostly Zinfandel with small amounts of Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouchet and Carignane.
