Growing Conditions
The red volcanic soil and pleasantly warm climate of this hillside location combine to produce rich, full-bodied wines. Located on Sonoma Mountain with a southeastern exposure, the vineyard is above the fog level and receives early morning sun, followed by late afternoon breezes which temper the day's most extreme heat. The result of this exceptional terroir is grapes of great distinction that make wines with superb flavor and deep, rich color.
Harvest
In 2014 the historic California drought entered its third year and the exceptionally dry conditions concentrated the flavor of the grapes. Harvest began on September 24th and was completed over the next three days.
Bottling
Bottled 2016.
Winemaking
The grapes were brought to the winery to be fermented in stainless steel tanks. After three weeks, the young wine was pressed off the skins and settled before being racked into a combination of French and American oak barrels. After a year and a half, the barrels were pumped out and the blend was assembled for bottling.
Food Pairing
The rich fruit flavors found in this Merlot complement a wide range of dishes such as, Grilled Italian Sausage with Roasted Tomato Sauce, Grilled Flat Iron Steak, or Mediterranean Lamb Burgers.
