Nose

Ripe fruit aromas of red currant and raspberries combine with aromatic spicy notes of vanilla and pepper.

Palate

Rich, well-structured tannins provide an elegant mouth feel and a long finish.

Growing Conditions

Since our first vintage in 1987, the Jack London Zinfandel has produced flavorful wines with excellent fruit and well-rounded tannins. Located on Sonoma Mountain with a southeasterly exposure, the climatic conditions and long, cool growing season of this viticultural area create complexity and balance in the fruit. The influence of the vineyard’s red volcanic soil and the fruity characteristics of the grapes combine to produce an outstanding, very distinctive Zinfandel.

Harvest

The second year of the historic California drought the vintage of 2013 provided fruit with particularly intense and extracted character. Harvest began in mid-September with the sweetest grapes located at the highest part of the vineyard. Over the course of the following three weeks as the fruit slowly ripened, we picked our way down to the lowest part of the vineyard.

Winemaking

The grapes were fermented in stainless steel, and then aged in 75% French and 25% American oak barrels for 19 months.
