Nose

Intense gooseberry aroma mingles with nuances of lemon zest, juniper and caraway seed.

Palate

The fresh mouthfeel complemented by subtle hints of Amaretto leads to a silky finish.

Growing Conditions

Located on the plains of the Russian River Valley, this vineyard has an alluvial clay-loam soil composition that is characteristic of this AVA. The land is quite fertile and an excellent match to the vigorous vines of the variety. It is planted to the Musqué clone of Sauvignon Blanc which give the wine an intense floral aroma. Owned and managed by brothers Bill & Ernie Ricioli, who have been growing Sauvignon Blanc for Kenwood since 2002.

Bottling

Bottled February 2016.

Winemaking

Harvested by hand early in the morning of September 3rd, the grapes were brought to the winery and gently pressed before settling and racking into stainless steel fermentation tanks. The wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation and only received a slight amount of aging on oak to preserve the concentrated natural flavor of the Musqué clone.

Food Pairing

This intense Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent match with all types of seafood dishes but shows particularly well with caviar or raw oysters.
