Nose
The 2013 Estate Barbera expresses beautiful aromas of roses and violets in full bloom with notes of black pepper, caramel, and cinnamon.
Palate
A rich, velvety entry leads to the inviting fruit flavors of ripe, purple blackberries and plums and a luscious palate. This Barbera is flavorful and lightbodied while dense-in-fruit at the same time. It is a “juicy” red wine with a bright finish.
Growing Conditions
Hidden away in a low lying portion of our vineyard, separated from the rest of the property by trees and a creek, lies a remarkably ideal spot to grow the varietal Barbera. This grape was originally grown on the low slopes of Northern Italy. Perhaps the coolest microclimate on the Madrone estate, our Barbera grapes retain their acidity throughout the growing season resulting in a bright, fruit forward wine.
Food Pairing
Due to the high acidity, pairs really well with rich, fatty foods and high tannins, thus making the dish complete.
