Palate
A faint reminder of a cedar chest, full of warm berry cobbler, and pot of buttered cranberry punch. Accurately honed tannins surround jasmine, blue honeysuckle and fresh strawberry preserves on buttered toast.
Growing Conditions
In the northwest corner of Sonoma County near the community of Annapolis, Goldrock Ridge Vineyard sits at 600 feet elevation and lies just a little over five miles from the cold Pacific Ocean. This proximity to the coast provides a strong maritime influence, making for challenging viticulture on the exciting “true Sonoma Coast.” Planted in 2005 on the well-drained Goldridge fine sandy loam and Hugo gravelly loam soils, Riparia Gloire rootstock was selected for the Pinot Noir to control vigor and influence maturity. This combination of rootstock, clonal selection and environment on the extreme edges of cool-climate viticulture produces fruit with character and intensity that is expressed in Landmark’s 2014 Goldrock Ridge Pinot Noir.
Bottling
The free-run wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered July 2015.
Winemaking
The grapes were 100% destemmed due to small berry size and tannic intensity of the skins, then cold-soaked for five days. The
must was hand-punched twice a day during fermentation and drained at dryness.
Aging
The wine was placed in French oak barrels (35% new) for ten months and aged without racking.
