Nose
Aromas of leather-bound books, sweet baking spices, delicate red roses, and hints of cherry cola.
Palate
On first sip this 2014 Rayhill Vineyard Pinot Noir reminds us why we love the Russian River Valley. Cherries, grenadine, mulled cider, and perfectly firm tannins come together in this beautifully balanced wine.
Growing Conditions
The Rayhill vineyard sits at 500 feet elevation in the Sebastopol Hills, just outside of Freestone, a premier growing region known for its exceptionally well-drained Goldridge sandy loam soil and ideal climate. The nine-acre Russian River Valley vineyard sees warm, sunny days and cool, breezy evenings which yield incredibly expressive and elegant pinot noir grapes.
Bottling
Bottled July 2015.
Winemaking
Fermentation took place in small tanks and was gently hand-punched twice daily. Upon completion of fermentation, the juice and skins were lightly pressed in a small basket press. Whole-cluster fruit was added for structure and aromatics.
Aging
The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak (35–40% new) before bottling.
Food Pairing
Boudin blanc sausage with French green lentils, filet mignon with truffled goat cheese potatoes, cassoulet and fresh bread.
