Nose
The 2016 Stagecoach Cabernet erupts from the glass with an interwoven array of blackberries, wild black raspberries, cassis, roasted tree nuts and sun baked rock. Savory notes of chaparral at day break, dark chocolate, soy, fennel pollen and dried citrus rind bring incredible dimension to the plushness of this wine.
Palate
The palate is seamless and explodes with sweet and savory flavors. Black and purple fruits framed by velvety tannins layer the palate and linger long past last sip. Enjoy this mountain Cabernet now and over the next twenty years.
Growing Conditions
2016 was an unquestionably near perfect vintage; with an early
start and a season filled with long, warm days. The grapes developed
beautifully achieving optimal ripeness at harvest. The resulting wines
exhibit expressive, balanced and complex fruit flavors, supported
by elegant tannins.
On the fringe of Atlas Peak, bordering the Oakville AVA our block in Stagecoach Vineyard was planted in 2008 to Mark's exact specifications. One of the highest planted elevations in Stagecoach, this block was difficult to access by vehicle and required many months of dynamiting in preparation for planting.
The sparse soils are the deepest of red and are riddled with volcanic basalt and rocks of all sizes. The block is steeply situated and surrounded by chaparral. Mark selected his favorite ENTAVE clone 169 which produces small berried clusters full of concentrated flavors with a strong sense of terroir.
