San Rucci Winery
California
We are excited to introduce our 2023 Falanghina (pronounced fah-lahng-gee-nah). The Falanghina grape is an ancient Italian white wine grape native to the Calabria region. Our Falanghina is grown in San Benito County by the Siletto family. Typically white wine is made by juicing the grapes immediately after harvest. For our Falanghina we decided not to follow the traditional route. We de-stemmed and crushed the berries to let the skins stay in contact with the juice more or less macerating for a day. We then removed the juice through the grape press and allowed the juice to ferment. We decided to process this way because most of the flavor and aromatics found in wine actually come from the skins of the grape. Because of the extra skin contact time, we think our 2023 Falanghina has tons of citrus and peach aromas. The label for our Falanghina is one of our favorite childhood pictures of Bill. If you have stopped by the winery, he may have shared his nomadic childhood - Chicago to Las Vegas, Albuquerque to Sacramento, etc. Here he is in Las Vegas under a palm tree, we could only imagine escaping the desert heat. If we were to sum up this picture, we think the perfect caption would be "summertime and the living is easy".
