Winemaking

Varietals were handpicked on October 6 through November 2 and carefully cluster and berry sorted, 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel and concrete vessels. After a cold maceration of 3-6 days, daily punch-downs, pump-overs and pneumotage were conducted.

Aging

The wine rested for 20 months in 45% new French oak.

The 2024 vintage White is a combination of three Rhône varietals that each play a role in this finished blend. Roussanne leads creating an opulent texture, followed by Viognier lending its beautiful aromatics and Picpoul Blanc offering bright acidity. This blend features stone fruit (white peach, apricot), lemon curd, sweet fruit blossoms, a honeyed undertone and a citrusy saline mineral finish. To take advantage of the energetic acidity, one can enjoy this blend in its youth or to develop the richer complexities of a Roussanne-led wine, one could lay it down for a few years. Either way, the 2024 White is a marvelous apéritif or pairing with delicate seafood dishes or creamy textured cheeses.

2024’s Rosé is vibrant, zesty and fruity - a perfect wine to enjoy with friends and rich cuisine! As in years past we feature Grenache and Mourvèdre from the Willow Creek Estate. This wine is dry, light in color and expresses refreshing watermelon, sweet raspberry, white cherry blossom and tart mouthwatering acidity. It's an amazing accompaniment to an elegant brunch, a holiday dinner or a day by the pool enjoying your favorite cheese and charcuterie.

Focusing on two blocks of Grenache from the Copia Willow Creek Estate, The Story is a beautiful representation of the quietly powerful and elegantly flirty side of this grape. Block 4 Grenache is Clone 362, own-rooted and consistently our favorite Grenache block. It is Northeast facing, ripens last and is always expressive and aromatic. Block 21 is Alban clone on St. George rootstock, southwest facing and has a relatively small berry size, bringing power and concentration. Fragrant notes of crushed raspberries, white pepper, wild rose and incense are complemented by the wine's refined texture. It's a proud moment for Copia to have a singular Grenache from the 2023 vintage.

The Source is 100% Syrah and 100% our inspiration for doing what we do. In 2023 the blend is composed of every Syrah block at the Copia Estate, giving us the complexity we are always chasing. Having this beauty in our glass speaks of the quiet power of the ancient seabed soils of the Estate. 2023's Source is intense, has an aromatic dark fruit profile of cassis and blackberry. It's smoky and has mineral and exotic spice notes (incense, pepper), with a powerful, yet supple and elegant structure of balanced tannins, concentration, and acidity. It's our best yet. Block 1 | Our highest elevated, head-trained clone Estrella on 5BB rootstock facing southeast Block 3 | Head-trained, own-rooted clone Estrella facing northeast Block 6 | North facing and planted to clone 174 on Fercal rootstock Block 12 | Estrella clone on 5BB rootstock, VSP (vertical shoot positioned trellis) facing east Block 20 | Alban clone on 1103P rootstock facing southwest.

Of the earth, for the earth and by the earth. This is the best way we can describe The Anchor. Mourvèdre, with its savory and earthy tones, is the perfect varietal to honor the 13 generations of farming tradition in the Sahi Family. This is the second vintage of a wine that perfectly highlights the power, complexity and elegance of the fruit coming off of the Copia Willow Creek Estate. Part black fruited jam, part Mediterranean herbs and olives, 2022 The Anchor is fully alive with the furious energy of its vintage harvest. It’s big, it’s bold, has lovely balanced tannins and lingers on the palate almost as long as it might linger in the mind.

The Cure is inspired by the great Southern Rhône regions of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. With that said, this is wholeheartedly a Paso Robles G-S-M, with a focus on letting the vintage dictate what will lead. In 2023, Syrah became the predominant component of the blend for its texture and complexity. The profile is black fruited, rich and spicy, with wild herbs, sandalwood and leather. Powerful elegance and an opulent finish will allow this wine to stand up to meaty cuisine, earthy root vegetables and aged cheeses.
