A brief history
Eberle Winery is a family-owned producer of premium wines representing the Eberle Estate and carefully selected vineyard sites throughout Paso Robles. Since 1979, Eberle wines have showcased the history, character, and diverse expressions of the Paso Robles Appellation.
Gary Eberle grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and attended Penn State on a football scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science in biology. He later pursued graduate studies in cellular genetics at Louisiana State University, where he discovered his passion for wine and redirected his path toward winemaking.
Gary began his Paso Robles journey at Estrella Winery & Vineyards, one of the region’s pioneering wineries. After helping lay the foundation for modern winemaking in Paso Robles, he established Eberle Winery in 1979 and released his first Cabernet Sauvignon — debuting the now-iconic boar logo, symbolizing his German heritage.
As a founding figure in the creation of the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA) and a pioneer of varietal Syrah in California, Gary helped shape the region into a world-class wine destination.
Today, our members are part of that legacy — enjoying exclusive wines, personalized hospitality, and unforgettable experiences within our 16,000 square feet of underground wine caves carved into the hillside.
