Harvest

October 1 & November 2, 2019

The 2019 vintage of The Stand is a blend of Paso Robles Petite Sirah (92%)
complemented by Syrah (4%), Grenache (3%) and Viognier (1%) from Murmur vineyard
in the cooler Santa Maria Valley. The Petite Sirah was harvested on October 1 after a
mild, steady growing season, while the Rhône varieties followed on November 2.

Winemaking

After destemming the clusters, Director of Winemaking Jeremy Leffert and his team
fermented the Petite Sirah in stainless steel tanks over a period of nine to 11 days. This
quick, warm fermentation was designed to enhance the formation of polymeric
anthocyanins for a sweeter mouthfeel and stable color with minimal tannic
astringency. The Rhône varieties were fermented separately in large open-top oak
foudres, with the Syrah and Viognier being co-fermented. The Petite Sirah was aged in
French oak barrels, while the Rhône varieties were matured in large-format oak
puncheons. In the final blend, Petite Sirah sets the tone with decadent concentration,
while the cool-climate Syrah, Grenache and Viogner add brightness, balance and
immediate drinkability to the experience.
