Palate

The wine is incredibly complex with layers ranging from leather, cured meats and peppercorn to fig paste, blueberry and dark plum complemented with notes of sage, and anise all with a palate presence that is rich and impeccably balanced.

Growing Conditions

Long mild growing seasons, like we enjoyed in 2019, allow for considerable hang time insuring optimal maturity across varietals. These conditions provide a perfect opportunity for late ripening varietals like Mourvèdre to shine.

- Vineyards: G2 (Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache) / Full Draw (Mourvèdre, Grenache) / Shadow Canyon (Syrah)

Harvest

Harvested throughout the later part of October.

Winemaking

At 47% Mourvèdre, this is the highest percentage incorporated into the Banshee to date which may very well end up being the finest example of this wine we have produced.

Fermentations took place utilizing native yeast. Each lot was managed with gentle punch downs for an average of 4 weeks prior to basket pressing. The wines were aged on their lees in 300L French oak barrels for 20 months with the new oak percentage held to 33%. The wines were then blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered and given an additional 10 months of bottle age prior to release. The Banshee will no doubt impress in its youth with a few hours in a decanter, or for those looking to cellar a few bottles, it will continue to develop beautifully over the next 10+ years.
