Nose

Notes of fresh menthol, ripe cherry and dark cocoa powder.

Palate

The aromas connue through the palate and are elevated with flavors of cedar-spice and warm vanilla. This medium bodied wine finishes with nuances of warm vanilla and smooth layered tannins, the finish is dry yet supple.

Growing Conditions

The 2020 growing season and harvest was near normal in some ways and very unusual in others. Rainfall was 12% below average with the bulk of the storms occurring in early winter and early spring. Spring frost threats were mild. Vine growth and berry development was normal through spring. Then, summer brought several heatwaves that lasted for days at a time. This pattern slowed berry development. October was warm and dry, which helped to quickly mature clusters.

Harvest

Harvest was condensed and flurried as most fruit ripened at the same time. Yields were down by 20% but initial and thorough testing showed very promising quality and no damage from the wildfire smoke from the fires that burned to the north and south of Paso Robles.

Bottling

October of 2021

Winemaking

The Cabernet & Cabernet Franc are harvested and fermented individually by vineyard lots and then aged in used American oak barrels.

Aging

The lots were racked twice during barrel ageing, blended together and put into 65% New American oak barrels for an additional 3 months. Just prior to bottling the wine is filtered. The 2020 Quest Red Wine was aged for a total of 12 months in oak, blended in summer of 2021 and then bottled in October of 2021.
