Nose
The full body of our 2019 Classic Cabernet Franc is filled with aromas of dark cherry, baking spice, and plum.
Palate
The palate leads with dark chocolate and cassis, rounded out with additional plum. The long finish is framed by structured tannins thanks to the added eight percent West Side Paso Petit Verdot.
Growing Conditions
In years to come, we will think back on the 2019 vintage as the stuff that dreams are made of. With the last frost being seen in the vineyards on March 14th, the season proceeded to be warm and dry. April brought us a warm-up into the upper 80s during the day and a cool down into the 60s at night. We did not see any long-term heat spikes and the fruit was able to hang on the vines, without any eminent threat of bad weather, until they were ideal for harvesting.
Plummer Vineyard, located on the East side of Paso Robles where the Cabernet Franc planting was planted with a WSW to ENE row orientation, selected to reduce fruit exposure to direct sunlight during veraison. This unique row orientation has successfully reduced fruit sunburn and allows harvest “hang time” flexibility. Wines made from Plummer Vineyard fruit have consistently shown intense color and good acidity/tannin balance.
