Growing Conditions

November - January rainfall was minimal, registering a mere 2 inches. We had enough sporadic sprinkles to get the cover crop on its way by late January. Early February brought summer like conditions with 2 weeks of sunny warm days. Yellow jackets and lady bugs emerged earlier than ever before and fruit trees were blossoming. The second week of March brought near freezing temperatures, rain and hail in some instances. Late March and April rainfall brought us almost back to average for the growing season. The sheep finally had forage and cover crop to eat. Almost as soon as we moved them out to the vineyard for grazing, buds started to emerge late March.

Winemaking

After careful hand sorting, 65% of the grapes were destemmed. The grapes went through 3 - 5 days of maceration followed by natural fermentation. This wine aged in new French oak puncheons, 20% of which were new.
