Nose

The result shows an unique balance between ripe, delicious fruit, an intense minerality originating from our high limestone soils and delicate floral notes. Dark brambly berries, dried sage and bay leaf, violets and a hint of sea breeze play a role in Block B’s intricate aromas.

Palate

Its palate is long and lush with a line of fresh acidity to balance its smooth black fruit and tannin. This wine is all about its texture, leaving the mouth watering for its next indulgent sip and worthy of 10+ years of cellar age.

Growing Conditions

Single variety, single vineyard, single block… absolutely epic. This wine is 100% Syrah from one intense and unique site on the Paderewski Vineyard – Block B.

Paderewski Vineyard:

Travel just west of Paso Robles, and you will find Paderewski Vineyard: 67 acres of undulating, steep, limestone rich hillsides within 570 rural, spring-fed acres. In the early 1900’s, this vineyard was cherished and farmed by world-renowned pianist, Polish diplomat, and vintner, Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Fast forward a century, and this property stood forgotten and fallow. Lucky for us, in 2004, we became the stewards of this amazing piece of property.

Planted: 2004 Acreage: 95 under vine, 570 total Soils: limestone, calcareous, rocky pH: low to mid 8 AVA: Paso Robles District: Willow Creek Red Varietals: Grenache, Mourvedre, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Zinfandel White Varietals: Grenache Blanc, Picpoul Blanc, and Viognier

Winemaking

While blending, its intense and unique flavor profile screamed to be left alone to highlight the exact location on which it was grown. We did just that!
