Nose

Soft, supple, and perfumed is the essence of this wine’s personality. Earl gray tea leaves and rose pedal are infused with cola and stringent cranberry tones that radiate out of the glass in a tactile effervescence while a forest floor earthiness provides depth and layers.

Palate

The wine opens up with a raspberry punch sweetness counteracted by spicy black pepper and blackened serrano peppers. Layers of gritty tannin are built into the core of the wine and carry the blackened savoriness of a smoked brisket and the candied sweetness of a watermelon sucker. Finishes with continued grip in the core and the tart sweetness of raspberry cobbler.

Growing Conditions

Mourvedre is always one of the last grapes to come into the winery each year, and in cold years even struggles to get ripe. But 2020 was far from a cold vintage, and Alta Colina’s high elevation vineyard creates long growing days that easily gets this finicky grape to the finish line. Winemaking

We incorporated about 50% whole clusters into the fermentation to give it a little extra grip on the palate and some woody and earthy aromatics on the nose. Along with our Last of 5 Cinsault, this wine is best enjoyed with a slight chill on a hot day and paired with decadent cheeses.
